#5 Casa Particulares: Bayamo

We made it Bayamo in time for dinner at Yoani's cousins place. We had enchilado chicken, rice/beans, and yucca. The family grew the yucca out in the yard. It was the only place I could find yucca my whole time in Cuba! Evidently, it is not easy to grow I was told. We ended up spending two nights at this Casa Particulares. It was owned by a Cuban/Russian who seemed to have access to money as he had a really nice BnB. For example, he had a 60 inch flat screen in his living room where he had it set up with screens from cameras all over his establishment. It was a little creepy. But the guy and especially his wife were very nice. The BnB was the only place that attempted to have Wifi on the premises (assuming you had bought a Wifi card), but kind of failed as I was not able to get a connection.
Outside the establishment, there seemed to be a little park that was used for all sorts of activities in the morning. For example, we saw a bunch of people line up every day, saying the national anthem and doing other 'civic activities' like complaining about things. The first morning we saw the mosquito abatement team ready to go out and fight the mosquitoes. The next morning we saw people dressed up as nurses. We spent two nights here because we were limited on time and while wanting to visit Santiago, needed to make it back up toward Havana some distance, as our time was running short.
