Playa Larga & Don Alexis

Day 3 of our Cuban tour was really the start of a long 1600 km drive down the length of Cuba and back. The first place we stopped was for lunch at Don Alexis. We were on our way to Bay of Pigs and spending the night at the large town there, Playa Larga.

Don Alexis is the name of the cook and restaurant (see picture), situated behind a non-descript house in an unassuming neighborhood and really in the middle of nowhere.  The guy is a genuine master chef and we were treated with much love and attention. His personality is nothing short of effusive! He was a complete joy to be around. It was the best part of our visit to the Bay of Pigs. In fact, we insisted on stopping by his place for lunch again when we would depart Playa Larga the following day.
